Fifteen taught modules take a receptionist from how general practice fits together through privacy, accessible communication, approved urgency routes, Pharmacy First, safeguarding and failed-handover recovery. The final Reception Desk draws from 30 fictional contacts, including 12 voiced calls, five live channel queues, interruptions and a balanced 10-contact unseen shift. Every handover records an owner, timeframe, contingency and patient message, with five separate safety-domain scores. It tests safe process, never diagnosis.

Practice the decisions before they involve a real patient
Short lessons explain the role boundary and the reason behind each process. Applied rehearsals then show a failed handover, inaccessible contact, unclear route or other realistic problem and ask the learner to recover it. The two desks turn that learning into repeatable simulated performance.

What this training is, and what it is not
The programme is built around hard safety boundaries, and it teaches them explicitly:
- Administrators do not diagnose and do not independently triage.
- Prescription clerks never decide whether a medicine should be prescribed. They prepare accurately and send to be signed; the prescriber makes the clinical decision.
- National learning teaches purpose and risk. The exact queue names, task routes, recall systems and escalation contacts always come from the practice's own local configuration and SOPs.
- Medicine in Practice does not sign anyone off as workplace competent. Reports are developmental and never casually label an individual unsafe.
- The employing practice remains responsible for local induction, clinical-system training, supervision, permissions, observation and competency decisions.
Certificate of Completion and Simulated Performance
"The learner has completed the Medicine in Practice pathway and met the stated performance thresholds within the simulated learning environment. This does not constitute workplace competency sign-off, grant clinical-system permissions or authorise independent prescription processing. Local induction, supervision, observation and competency assessment remain the responsibility of the employing practice."
