Cookies & Local Storage

Last updated August 2026. Questions? Email [email protected].

We keep this simple: Medicine in Practice does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. It uses your browser’s local storage for things that are strictly necessary to make the app work:

KeyPurpose
vpa_progress_v1, vpa_profile_v1Your learning progress and profile, so the app works offline and remembers where you are
vpa_tokenYour sign-in session token (only if you create an account)
vpa_adminThe owner’s admin token (owner console only)
vpa_cookie_consentRemembers your accept/reject choice for this notice

These are essential to the service and are not shared with third parties. You can clear them any time via your browser settings (this will reset local progress). We do not currently use any non-essential or analytics storage; if we add it later, it will only be switched on when you accept below, and rejecting keeps it off (PECR).

Cookieless site measurement

We use first-party, privacy-minimised server measurement to count page categories and understand public journeys. It does not place or read an analytics cookie or analytics local-storage key. The server converts the IP address and browser user-agent received with an ordinary web request into a salted code that changes every day; the raw IP is not stored in the analytics table. Query strings, form entries, account details, clinical answers and patient/case IDs are not recorded. Selecting reject non-essential below stops the optional in-page journey beacons. See the Privacy Policy for the fields, purpose, retention period and your right to object.

Your cookie choice

You can accept or reject non-essential storage, and change your mind at any time.

Current choice: accepted.

Newsletter & marketing emails

Signing up for our clinical-updates newsletter is separate from cookies: you opt in with the sign-up box, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. If you have an account, you can separately opt in to occasional product updates and useful next steps based on your saved learning progress. Automated journey emails are frequency-limited, every message has one-click unsubscribe, and you can turn the preference off from your Account page. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your email.
